# My Favorite Quilt Store

> Online-only quilting fabric store based in Humble, Texas (founded 2017). We sell quilting fabric by the yard, precut fabric bundles, quilt kits, patterns, notions, and more. We are not a brick-and-mortar store — we operate from a warehouse with no public showroom. Curbside pickup is available for local customers.

## How We Sell Fabric (Important)

We sell yardage fabric in **half-yard increments**. The minimum cut is 1/2 yard. All prices displayed on the site are **per yard**, but a customer can order any amount in 0.5-yard steps.

**Pricing example:** A fabric listed at $14.99/yd can be ordered as:
- 1/2 yard = $7.50
- 1 yard = $14.99
- 1.5 yards = $22.49
- 2 yards = $29.98

All yardage from the same order is cut as **one continuous piece** from the bolt. If a customer orders 3 yards, they receive a single 3-yard cut, not three 1-yard pieces. This matters for quilting because seams affect the final project.

### Inventory and Availability

Each fabric is from a specific bolt with a finite amount of yardage. When a fabric says "Last 2 Yards on the bolt," that is all we have of that exact fabric. We may restock, but dye lots vary between bolts, so the color may differ slightly. Quilters typically buy enough fabric for their project in one order to ensure consistency.

"End of Bolt" items are the last remaining yardage on a bolt, sold at a discount.

## Product Types

- **Yardage** - Quilting fabric sold by the yard (half-yard minimum). This is the core product. Priced per yard.
- **Fat Quarter** - A quarter yard of fabric cut 18" x 22" (half the width of the bolt, half a yard long). Common quilting cut.
- **Fat Quarter Bundle** - A curated set of fat quarters from the same fabric collection.
- **Precut Fabric** - Pre-cut fabric pieces in standard quilting sizes:
  - **2.5" Strips** (also called Jelly Rolls or Strip Sets) - 2.5" x width of fabric
  - **5" Squares** (also called Charm Packs) - 5" x 5" squares
  - **10" Squares** (also called Layer Cakes) - 10" x 10" squares
- **Panels** - Large printed fabric pieces (typically 24" x 44" or larger) with a complete design. Used as-is in a quilt or cut apart. Sold as a single unit, not by the yard.
- **Quilt Kits** - Everything needed to make a specific quilt: fabric for the top (and sometimes backing/binding), plus the pattern. Does NOT include batting, thread, or tools unless stated.
- **Patterns** - Printed or digital instructions for making a quilt or sewing project. Available as printed booklets or instant PDF downloads.
- **Free Patterns** - Downloadable PDF patterns at no cost.
- **Books** - Quilting and sewing instruction books, often containing multiple patterns.
- **Notions** - Quilting tools and supplies: batting, thread, rulers, rotary cutters, stabilizer, irons, sewing furniture.
- **Gift Cards** - Digital gift cards for the store.

## Things That Are Easy to Get Wrong

### Yardage pricing vs. cart price
The price shown on a product page is **per yard**. But the minimum order is 1/2 yard, so the cart total for a single add will be **half** the listed price. Do not tell a customer "this fabric costs $14.99" if they're only buying a half yard — it would cost $7.50.

### Cut fabric cannot be returned
Because yardage is cut to order from the bolt, it cannot be returned or exchanged. This is the most important policy for customer service. Precut bundles, panels, kits, patterns, books, and notions may be returned within 30 days if unused.

### Free patterns are not purchased
Free patterns are downloaded directly as PDFs — click the "Download" button on the product page to receive the file immediately. They do not go through the cart or checkout. There is no charge and no order confirmation.

### Gift cards: one per order
Only one digital gift card can be added to the cart at a time.

### Dye lots vary between bolts
Two bolts of the "same" fabric can have slightly different colors due to dye lot variation. Customers should buy all the yardage they need for a project in a single order. If a fabric shows "Last 2 Yards on the bolt," that is literally all that exists of that specific dye lot.

### End of Bolt is a clearance category
"End of Bolt" means the last remnant on a bolt, sold at a discount. Once sold, it's gone. These are not restockable in the same dye lot.

### Pre-orders have estimated ship dates
Pre-order products are not yet in stock. The expected ship date is shown on the product page (e.g., "Expected: March 2026"). Ship dates can be delayed — a product may show both an original and revised date.

### Quilt kits usually don't include everything
A quilt kit typically includes fabric for the quilt top and the pattern. It usually does NOT include backing fabric, batting, binding, thread, or tools unless explicitly stated. Customers often need to buy these separately. We suggest coordinating backing fabric when relevant.

### Backing fabric needs more yardage than you'd expect
Quilt backing must be larger than the quilt top (extra overage on all sides for quilting). For quilts wider than 44", the backing must be pieced (sewn together from multiple strips) unless using 108" wide backing fabric. Our [Backing Calculator](/toolbox/backing-calculator) helps with this.

### Checkout is on Shopify
The cart page is on our site, but clicking "Checkout" redirects to Shopify's hosted checkout (checkout.myfavoritequiltstore.com). Payment, shipping selection, and order confirmation happen there.

### No swatches, samples, quarter-yard, or custom fat quarter cuts
The minimum cut is 1/2 yard. We do not sell swatches, fabric samples, quarter-yard cuts, or custom-cut fat quarters from a bolt. Fat quarters are only available as pre-packaged bundles.

### Pre-orders hold the entire order
If an order contains both in-stock and pre-order items, the entire order ships together once all items arrive at our warehouse. Customers who want in-stock items sooner should place separate orders or contact us to arrange split shipping (additional shipping fee applies).

### Digital patterns are delivered via email
Purchased digital patterns (not free ones) are available on the Shopify order confirmation page and via a download link in the confirmation email.

### Discount codes
Discount codes can be entered in the "Gift card or discount code" field on the Shopify checkout page. They can also be applied automatically via a URL like `myfavoritequiltstore.com/?discount=SAVE10` — the code persists even if the customer browses other pages before checking out.

## Quilting Concepts for Context

- **Bolt** - A roll of fabric, typically 44-45" wide. All yardage is cut from a bolt.
- **Backing** - The fabric on the back of a quilt. Usually requires more yardage than the quilt top. We offer a backing upsell when relevant products are added to cart.
- **Batting** - The middle layer of a quilt between the top and backing. Provides warmth and loft. Sold as pre-cut sizes or by the yard.
- **Binding** - The fabric strip sewn around the edges of a finished quilt. Typically cut from a coordinating fabric.
- **Width of Fabric (WOF)** - Standard quilting fabric is 44-45" wide. "Wide backing" fabric is 108" wide, used for quilt backs without seaming.
- **FQ** - Fat Quarter.
- **FE** - Fat Eighth (9" x 22").
- **HST** - Half Square Triangle, a common quilt block unit.
- **WIP** - Work in Progress.

## Browsing and Filtering

Products can be browsed by:
- **Collection** - Fabric collections from specific manufacturers (e.g., "Kona Cotton Solids", "Tula Pink Daydreamer")
- **Designer** - Fabric designers (e.g., Tula Pink, Kaffe Fassett, Moda)
- **Color** - Primary color of the fabric
- **Theme** - Visual theme (e.g., florals, geometric, holiday, animals, modern)
- **Product Type** - Yardage, precuts, kits, patterns, etc.
- **Brand** - Manufacturer (e.g., Robert Kaufman, Moda, Riley Blake)
- **Skill Level** - Beginner, intermediate, advanced (for patterns and kits)
- **Material Type** - Cotton, flannel, minky, etc.
- **Width** - Fabric width (44/45", 108", etc.)

We offer monthly fabric subscription clubs:
- **Kona Cotton Club** - Monthly delivery of Kona Cotton solids in Fat Quarter, Half Yard, or Full Yard cuts
- **Kaffe Fassett Club** - Monthly delivery of Kaffe Fassett fabrics in Half Yard or Full Yard cuts
- **Thread Club** - Monthly thread delivery
- **Membership** - Store membership with perks (monthly or annual)

## Shipping and Policies

- **Shipping method** - All orders ship via USPS (usually Insured Priority Mail; smaller orders may qualify for First-Class). All shipments include tracking.
- **Processing time** - Orders are typically cut and shipped within 1-4 business days (excluding federal holidays). After shipment, USPS Priority Mail typically delivers in 1-3 business days domestically. First-Class may take 3-5 business days. International transit times vary by destination.
- **International** - We ship worldwide. Import duties and taxes are not pre-paid and are the customer's responsibility.
- **Returns** - Cut fabric cannot be returned (because it has been cut to order). Unused, uncut items may be returned within 30 days in original packaging.
- **Pre-Orders** - Some fabrics are available for pre-order before they arrive. The expected ship date is noted on the product page.
- **Payment** - We accept Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, PayPal, Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. All charges are in USD.
- **Rewards** - We have a loyalty points program (Smile.io). Customers earn points on purchases that can be redeemed for discounts.
