Primary Fabric:
Batting Type:
Washing:
- Machine wash cold or warm on gentle cycle
- Use a color-safe, fragrance-free detergent (like Synthrapol or Orvus)
- First wash will create the beloved crinkly/puckered texture
Drying:
- Tumble dry on low heat
- Remove while slightly damp and smooth flat if you want minimal wrinkles
- Cotton batting quilts may take longer to dry — ensure fully dry before storing
Storage:
- Store in a breathable cotton bag or wrapped in a clean cotton sheet
- NEVER store in plastic — it traps moisture and can cause mildew
- Keep in a cool, dry, dark place away from direct sunlight
- Refold periodically (every 3-6 months) to prevent permanent creases
- Add lavender sachets to deter insects (never mothballs — they damage fabric)
Warnings:
- Never use chlorine bleach — it weakens cotton fibers
- Avoid fabric softener — it coats fibers and reduces breathability
- Treat stains promptly — blot (don't rub) with cool water and mild soap
