Quilt Care Guide

Get personalized washing, drying, and storage instructions for your quilt.

Primary Fabric:

Batting Type:

Washing:

  • Machine wash cold or warm on gentle cycle
  • Use a color-safe, fragrance-free detergent (like Synthrapol or Orvus)
  • First wash will create the beloved crinkly/puckered texture

Drying:

  • Tumble dry on low heat
  • Remove while slightly damp and smooth flat if you want minimal wrinkles
  • Cotton batting quilts may take longer to dry — ensure fully dry before storing

Storage:

  • Store in a breathable cotton bag or wrapped in a clean cotton sheet
  • NEVER store in plastic — it traps moisture and can cause mildew
  • Keep in a cool, dry, dark place away from direct sunlight
  • Refold periodically (every 3-6 months) to prevent permanent creases
  • Add lavender sachets to deter insects (never mothballs — they damage fabric)

Warnings:

  • Never use chlorine bleach — it weakens cotton fibers
  • Avoid fabric softener — it coats fibers and reduces breathability
  • Treat stains promptly — blot (don't rub) with cool water and mild soap
