T-Shirt Quilt Tips:

  • Always use fusible interfacing (like Pellon SF101) on the back of each t-shirt square — knit fabric stretches too much without it
  • Apply interfacing BEFORE cutting to final size for more accurate squares
  • Use a walking foot when sewing to prevent stretching
  • Sashing between blocks gives a cleaner look and makes it easier to work with slightly different-sized designs
  • Don't have enough shirts? Use coordinating fabric for filler blocks
  • Fleece or minky makes a great back for t-shirt quilts — no batting needed!
